My Story
Read about my story and why i love to bake so much......
Hello fellow cake lovers 😊, I'm Charlotte and I'm the founder and owner of Lily's Bake Box and I'm obsessed with cake. I'm a one woman band running my dream business whilst also being a mummy to Max and engaged to Rhys.
You might be wondering where the name Lily's Bake Box came from....well Lily is the name of someone I lost who was very special to me and I've always loved it. So don't worry if you call me Lily by mistake, I respond to either name!!
How it started....
I LOVE desserts, cake, any sort of sweet treats, to the point I always check the dessert menu of a restaurant before deciding to eat there. I come from a long line of bakers, so it's no surprise I have a very sweet tooth and they taught me well about what makes a great cake. I spent most of my time as a little girl perched on a stool in the kitchen helping make cakes, biscuits, welsh cakes, anything you can think of. Which was absolutely fine by me and I've stashed a few old family recipes too :)
It took me a while to decide to start Lily's Bake Box, it was what I always went back to when I was having a bad day and I always knew deep down that I wanted to have my own business. I'd had a little break from baking and then I started to bake again and posted pictures on social media and that's when people started contacting me to make orders. That was the turning point for me where I realised this is what I'm meant to do and making people happy through cake was what I loved most. I don't know why it took me so long to figure it out, when I have a Mum who was a wedding cake maker and a great Nanna who was one of the top bakers in South Wales back in the 1940's.
And so the adventure began....
I started Lily's Bake Box in December 2017 and it kept growing and growing. I was working full time in a bank when i first started, so i continued to create cakes around that. Eventually it got to the point i needed to reduce my hours and then eventually give up my job to run the business full time. This also happened shortly after having my little boy. I want him to see that you really can follow your dreams.
It's taken me by surprise how well LBB is doing and in such a short space of time. My vision for LBB is to make unique cakes that are a level above what you can find elsewhere, with my own creative stamp on them. It's all about amazing tasting cake that looks beautiful and enticing.
I had a brief break in 2020 when I had my little boy Max and no doubt at some point when he's older I will be training him up as an apprentice😊. My style has definitely changed over the last 18 months as I had time to really experiment and find out what designs best represent LBB. For this reason I realised what you can do with buttercream and now only produce and specialise in buttercream cakes.
How it's going....
I am now in the throes of a very busy successful business, next steps next year woud be to look at expanding and hiring. I am predominently creating wedding cakes and am fully booked for 2022. I also won the wedding industry award from Weddings Inc, for Wedding Cake Designer for Wales in 2021 and now 2022. I have a very niche style that makes me stand out from the crowd as my designs are modern and artistic with an abstract feel to them. I am definitely a cake maker for the modern couple.
There's so much more to come and I'm excited that you're joining me on my cake journey.
